Top tips on how to maintain your appliances

If you want to know how to look after your appliances properly, then these tips from Adelaide Appliance Gallery will be of great interest:

Make those kitchen appliances last longer
The kitchen is the heart of the home, especially in winter. We love cooking up a hearty meal to take away those winter chills. However, all those wonderful appliances that make cooking so great can sometimes feel a bit unloved.

Most of your kitchen appliances need a bit of tender loving care from time to time, otherwise you could experience some nasty repair bills. That’s not what you want right in the middle of winter!

So, here’s a few tips on how to maintain your kitchen appliances.

Refrigerator maintenance
Everybody is probably guilty of leaving the inside of the fridge a little messy from time to time. Something leaks or spills, and you leave it before cleaning up. Well, while that’s not particularly hygienic, it won’t usually affect how the fridge works. It’s actually the outside of the fridge you need to worry about.

Your condenser coils should be cleaned pretty regularly, about twice a year is a good start. If they get clogged with dirt and dust, they can’t release heat effectively. To locate them, check the back of the fridge for most older models. Some newer fridges have the coils on the bottom, so check your owner manual for instructions.

Keep that oven cooking well
Ok, so we all know that we should clean the oven more than we should. But it’s not just a hygiene issue. If food is burnt onto the inside of your oven, it can cause damage when you finally do scrape it off. However, the best tip we can give is to stay away from harsh chemicals.

Many of the oven cleaners on the market today are filled with chemicals that can damage the oven’s walls or elements over time. Look for novel ideas like baking soda paste.

Also, remember that even self-cleaning ovens need to be vacuumed or wiped out, because the self-cleaning function simply burns away spills, leaving a charred mess in the oven.

Dishwasher tips
Dishwashers should last a long time, provided you look after them. Leave the door slightly ajar when not running, as this prevents mould and also protects door seals. You should also clean the filter regularly, and most dishwasher filters are easy to remove and wash in hot, soapy water. We also recommend running hot intensive cycles every fortnight to kill bacteria as well as run a descale every 3-4 months. Check out our Power Of 4 products for more information.
